Chapter 48
Chapter 48:
When Jenna falsely claimed ownership of the luxurious car, Gilbert remained silent, eager to see the look of regret and envy on Madisyn’s face.
“Then, can I borrow your car?” Madisyn asked, her tone calm and casual.
“Behave, and maybe I’ll let you borrow it,” Jenna replied smugly. “Gilbert spent a small fortune on this car. Tell you what—kneel and call us ‘Mom and Dad,’ and maybe I’ll let you drive it.”
Gilbert winced internally at Jenna’s crude suggestion but remained intrigued, wondering if Madisyn would stoop to such humiliation. He added his own taunt to stir the pot. “Madisyn, your ‘pretty boy’ surely can’t afford something like this, right? Just think—say a few words, and you could be driving this, flaunting it on social media. Imagine the envy you’d stir.”
Unfazed, Madisyn’s reply was steady. “Really? Then unlock the doors first.”
“Kneel down first, and then we’ll open the doors!” Jenna shot back, folding her arms, her smugness uncontainable.
The surrounding crowd whispered amongst themselves, their admiration for the car clear.
“This car is stunning! I wish I could own something like that.”
“Maybe ask the owner if you can take a picture with it?”
“It’s got to be worth tens of millions.”
Jenna reveled in the attention, feeling every inch the proud owner of the luxurious car. Her ego soared under the envious stares of the crowd.
“If you can’t open the doors, just move aside,” Madisyn said icily, no longer interested in entertaining their antics.

Jenna, assuming Madisyn merely wanted a photo with the car, blocked her path. “Want to take pictures? You’ll need my permission first,” she declared haughtily.
Madisyn had enough. With a sharp tone, she retorted, “Enough with the nonsense.” She pulled out a car key, and the headlights blinked in response.
A stunned silence washed over the onlookers.
With a confident stride, Madisyn pushed Jenna aside, opened the door, and slid into the driver’s seat. Jenna, overwhelmed with shock, stumbled backward, her face drained of color. She collapsed onto the pavement, disbelief clouding her vision.
The murmurs around them grew louder.
“Oh my God, they don’t actually own the car?”
“Why would they lie about something like that?”
“So, that stunning woman is the actual owner? She’s absolutely gorgeous.”
“That woman pretended to be high and mighty but was showing off with someone else’s car. How pathetic!”
“She’s a madwoman—asking that girl to kneel? Who does she think she is?”
Jenna’s self-satisfied grin quickly evaporated as the realization set in. The car belonged to Madisyn, not her. The disapproving stares from the crowd left her humiliated. In a panic, Gilbert quickly ushered her away, desperate to escape the embarrassment.
Once they were in their own car, Gilbert’s frustration boiled over. “Why did you have to make those remarks earlier? Now we look like fools.”
“If you hadn’t just stood there, I wouldn’t have been embarrassed alone!” Jenna snapped, feeling the sting of humiliation. “But you didn’t stop me, did you?”
Gilbert bit back his retort, momentarily at a loss for words. “I had to back you up. Otherwise, you’d have been humiliated on your own.”
Jenna flushed with embarrassment as they watched Madisyn drive away in the car that had caused their downfall. After a tense silence, Jenna finally spoke, her voice shaky. “Gilbert, take me to the Chapman Group.”
“Why? Are you meeting with your dad?”
“No,” Jenna replied, feigning shyness. “I’ve started working at the Chapman Group.”
Her words caught Gilbert by surprise. Madisyn hadn’t managed to work her way into the company in years, but Jenna had quickly made her entrance, solidifying her position with the support of her parents. It only highlighted how deeply her family valued her.
Gilbert forced a smile. “Sure, I’ll take you there.”noveldrama
Upon her arrival at the Chapman Group, Jenna began her training under the supervision of the former entertainment department manager, who had recently been demoted to assistant manager. Despite his reduced rank, he was tasked with training Jenna, even though her background in dance left her ill-prepared for the business world.
“I’ve explained this to you multiple times. How do you still not understand?” the assistant manager’s frustration bubbled over after Jenna’s repeated questions.
“Shut up! You’re an employee in my family’s company. What gives you the right to lecture me?” Jenna snapped back, her demeanor turning icy. “I could have you fired with one word.”
Silenced by her threat, the assistant manager seethed internally. Despite her title and family connections, Jenna lacked the professionalism and understanding needed to command respect. She seemed far less refined than the former Miss Chapman, who had once held her position.
