Chapter 827 Have You Missed Me These Three Years?

Donovan heard her words and suddenly stood up, just about to curse her, but then he saw her bowing her head and wiping away tears.

Donovan's anger dissipated instantly. He reached out, grabbed Phoebe's arm, and tried to pull her to sit on the couch.

Phoebe struggled a bit but was eventually pulled over to sit down.

Seeing Phoebe's tears streaming down, Donovan's heart ached. Phoebe rarely cried, even when she was sad or upset; she always showed her optimistic side in front of the family.

Phoebe was now crying uncontrollably, which instantly triggered Donovan's sense of responsibility as her brother. He gently patted her back, "Alright, alright, don't be mad. I'm sorry."

Phoebe clenched her fists and pounded on Donovan like raindrops, "You're clearly alive, why did you pretend to be dead?"

Donovan was left speechless, "I..."

"Do you know how much Mom and I suffered? Do you know what Ruby has been through these years? She even had a child for you. How could you do this?" Phoebe got more and more agitated as she spoke.

Ruby, standing nearby, suddenly got nervous when Phoebe mentioned her, "I-I'm fine."noveldrama

Donovan quickly glanced at her and then focused back on Phoebe. He couldn't help but say, "Alright, stop crying. You're a mother of three now. How can you still be so childish?"

Phoebe glared at him, "You made me mad."

Donovan, feeling guilty and worried about her health, softly coaxed, "I was drunk at the time and called for a designated driver. When the car reached the coastal ring road, I got angrier and asked the driver to stop by the roadside. I wanted to cool off by the sea breeze."

Phoebe's crying gradually stopped, and she looked at him with red eyes.

"The driver followed me in the car. I was in a bad mood and asked him to drive ahead and wait for me. Then I saw the car malfunction, explode, and fall into the sea. I was so scared and realized someone wanted to kill me. I ran without thinking."

Ruby stared at him in a daze.

Donovan closed his eyes, "I escaped that disaster. Knowing someone wanted me dead, I went into hiding."

Phoebe looked at him in disbelief, "Did you ever think about our feelings while you were hiding?"

"If I didn't hide, you would have lost me completely," Donovan softened his tone, "I secretly investigated who wanted to kill me. It took years, but I recently found out who it was."

Phoebe's resentment immediately disappeared. She grabbed Donovan's sleeve and nervously asked, "Who?"

Donovan avoided her gaze, "Don't get involved in this. I have my plans."

"Donovan!" Phoebe was initially shocked to see him and hadn't had a good look at him. Now she realized he had changed.

His appearance hadn't changed much, but his aura had. He seemed more responsible than before.

"Don't do anything dangerous," Phoebe said.

Donovan shook his head, "Don't worry. Someone died in my place. I will cherish my life and not let that person's death be in vain."

"Are you really not going to tell me who wants to harm you?" Phoebe had many questions but only asked this one.

"Phoebe, you don't need to know. I know what I'm doing. Also, don't tell Mom that I'm still alive for now," Donovan said.

Phoebe was stunned, "Why? She would be so happy to know you're alive."

"Just listen to me. I still have some things to handle secretly, and it's not convenient to show up yet," Donovan said.

Phoebe pursed her lips. She realized Donovan wanted revenge, so he kept his survival a secret from them.

They lived in the same neighborhood, yet he hid it for so long, showing his determination. She said, "I understand. I'll keep your secret."

They chatted for a while longer, and the topic shifted to Ruby.

"Donovan, did you ask Ruby to clean for you? How could you? Ruby had Ethan for you;

you can't treat her like this," Phoebe said, feeling indignant for Ruby.

Ruby saw Donovan looking at her and quickly waved her hands, "No, no, Phoebe, I did it willingly."

Donovan coldly said, "Did you hear that? She did it willingly."

Phoebe realized it was a mutual agreement and felt her words were unnecessary. She checked the time on her wrist, "I have to go to work. I don't have time to deal with you two."

With that, she got up, grabbed her bag, and left.

Ruby glanced at Donovan and hurried to see Phoebe out. They walked in the yard, sunlight filtering through the leaves, casting dappled light on them.

Phoebe stood by the gate and looked back at Ruby.

Ruby was nervous, "Phoebe, do you blame me for keeping this from you?"

Phoebe sighed. She had sensed Donovan's increased assertiveness during their conversation.

He harbored resentment towards Ruby, and Ruby, feeling guilty, was overly compliant with him.

"I know this was Donovan's idea. I don't blame you, but Ruby, don't spoil him too much," Phoebe advised.

Ruby's ears turned red, and she quickly said, "I didn't."

"Alright, I'm off to work. Since Donovan is still alive, bring Ethan to see him."

"But... he never mentioned wanting to see Ethan. I'm afraid he doesn't want to," Ruby lowered her head, feeling a bit sad.

Phoebe patted her shoulder and opened the door to leave.

Ruby stood at the door for a while before turning back to the living room. Donovan

was still sitting there reading. He glanced at her, "Phoebe left?"

"Yes," Ruby couldn't gauge his mood and hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect Phoebe to follow me here."

Donovan closed the book and beckoned her with his finger, "Come here."

Ruby pursed her lips and walked over slowly. As soon as she reached the couch, Donovan grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto his lap.

She was startled and tried to stand up, but Donovan held her waist tightly. He pinched

her chin, his expression playful, "Have you missed me these three years?"

Ruby became nervous and started trembling, "I-I haven't cleaned downstairs yet. I'll go do it now."

She had just stood up when Donovan pulled her back down, pressing her onto the couch, "What's the rush? You have all day to clean. Take care of my needs first."
