Chapter 311
Allison might have genuinely forgotten about Watson, but for Joshua, erasing him from memory was nearly impossible.
Watson and Allison were in the same year, while Joshua was already a graduate student when Watson entered college. In theory, Watson, being a few years younger and from a different university, should have had no reason to cross paths with Joshua. But fate had a funny way of intertwining their stories.
Both Watson and Joshua were legends at their respective schools. Watson was the undisputed heartthrob at Oak Lake University, while Joshua reigned supreme at Lakeside College. Their striking good looks often drew comparisons, but Joshua couldn't care less about such trivialities. What made Watson unforgettable to him was one particular event: Watson's grand confession to Allison.
Joshua remembered it as if it were yesterday. It was December, Allison's freshman year, and Christmas-a time that seemed tailor-made for romantic gestures. Watson had gone all out, arranging roses in a heart shape right in the middle of Lakeside College's football field. He was dressed to impress, strumming his well-worn guitar and serenading with love songs like a peacock showing off its feathers.
Joshua, then a master's student at Lakeside College, had a routine of evening jogs. That night, as he hit the track, the buzz of excitement reached his ears.
"Did you hear? The top heartthrob from Oak Lake University is here to declare his love!" a nearby girl gushed, but Joshua just shrugged it off. Such dramatic displays were par for the course in college, hardly something to get worked up
over.
He started his jog, snippets of gossip floating by.
"Is it Watson, the heartthrob from Oak Lake?"
"Yeah, I saw him with a guitar and roses in a heart shape. He's really something— so handsome!"
"The heartthrob from Oak Lake is confessing? I gotta see this."
"Wait, I'm coming too!"
"No way, Watson has a crush? How many girls will be heartbroken tonight?"
"I just saw Watson, and wow, he's even more stunning in person. No wonder he's the star of Oak Lake!"
Some girls were even moved to tears by Watson's romantic display.
The field was dimly lit that night, and few noticed Lakeside's own heartthrob Joshua, casually jogging by. Some of Joshua's admirers, who knew his routine, occasionally trailed after him or offered him water, though he never accepted.
Joshua had zero interest in the whole spectacle-until he caught a familiar name.
On his second lap, through the chatter, he distinctly heard Allison's name. His
pace slowed as the whispers grew clearer.
"So, Watson's smitten with our school's beauty, Allison. Well, I can't compete with that; no shame in losing to her."
"I must say, Watson and Allison would be a perfect match—a heartthrob and a beauty. I ship it!"
"But I really like Watson; can't our beauty turn him down?"
Joshua changed his course, heading toward the center of the field.
There stood Watson, the center of attention, in a light camel coat over a white turtleneck, exuding a suave and gentle charm. His eyes were warm and inviting, drawing people in. swñovelnoveldrama
He strummed his guitar, providing his own accompaniment. Watson's voice was like velvet, effortlessly hitting each note, its rich, deep timbre mesmerizing the crowd of onlookers.
