Love That Wasn't Meant to Last

Chapter 99

I don't like being kept in the dark.

The two of them were exchanging words, and they weren't using any professional jargon, but I couldn't understand a single word.

"What are you two talking about?"

Selena took a deep breath, seemingly coming to a decision. She shook her head and smiled at me. "Let me tell you the real reason your girlfriend resigned."

I raised an eyebrow, not fully understanding what Selena meant.

If Sylvia resigned, then she just didn't like the job or couldn't adapt to it. Why would there be another special reason?

Upon hearing Selena's words, Sylvia's emotions seemed to fluctuate even more.

"No, Selena, you promised you wouldn't tell Hudson. You can't go back on your word."

"Sylvia, get it straight. You broke the promise first, so don't blame me for being heartless."

Selena looked at Sylvia's panicked face and smiled. "You don't want me to tell him? Well, I'm going to tell him anyway."

She turned to me. "Hud, let me tell you the real reason Sylvia resigned."

With that, Selena took out her phone and showed me a few photos. "Hud, do you think the woman in these photos looks a bit familiar?"

I looked at the photos, and a feeling of dread washed over me.

The woman in the photos, judging by her posture, outfit, and hairstyle, bore a striking resemblance to Sylvia. In one shot, she was seen in

two of them locked in a passionate embrace, kissing fervently with their clothes in disarray.

The next photo showed the woman sprawled on the ground with her hair tangled and clothes askew. She seemed to have sustained some injuries while another woman, looking furious, stood nearby.

As Selena flipped through the photos, she explained, "During the time you were away, this woman was having an affair with your boss. But unfortunately, she got caught."

"Your boss' wife then plastered pictures of their affair all over the company. This woman lost all her dignity and had no choice but to resign."

I turned to look at Sylvia beside me. She suddenly seemed so unfamiliar to me. Did I really know who Sylvia was?

Sylvia stared at me. Tears were streaming down her face, and she shook her

head, crying. "Hudson, please believe me. It's not what Selena says. I... I have my reasons."

After hearing Sylvia's words, I took a deep breath and tried to force a smile.

"What reasons? Tell me, Sylvia. Why did you do this?"

Okay, I couldn't hold my emotions back anymore. I yelled at Sylvia, stood up, and distanced myself from her before sitting beside Selena.

Sylvia reached out and wanted to stop me, but her hand hovered mid-air before retracting.

"I'm sorry, I can't say anything right now. But I promise when the time is right, I'll tell you everything."
