As if on cue, Hoyt immediately dropped to his knees before Brook.

“Dad, I’ve been reflecting deeply over the past few days. I made a huge mistake. I shouldn’t have acted so impulsively.” He glanced cautiously at Brook, gauging his reaction, then continued, “If only I were more capable of helping you, then Kellan wouldn’t be so arrogant and make you upset.”

“You don’t need to be overly capable, Hoyt,” Nova chimed in. “Just work hard and give your father less to worry about in the future.”

Brook’s stern expression began to ease as he observed Hoyt’s submissive demeanor. He nodded condescendingly and said, “Get up. Nova’s right. You should focus on working harder.”

Little did everyone know, he had plans in mind.

For years, he had intended to groom Kellan, shaping him into an excellent heir to the family legacy. But Kellan’s increasing defiance had made him question that decision. Perhaps using his other son Hoyt, who was less clever but more pliable, would be easier.

Brook nodded slightly, acknowledging her point. He was well aware of Hoyt’s shortcomings. However, his reasoning went deeper than just project experience.

Nova blinked, caught off guard. She had expected Brook to assign Hoyt some minor responsibilities, something manageable to ease him into larger roles. This, however, was a significant leap.
