Chapter 1195
As the crew lounged casually in the back of the car, one of them quipped, "Mind if
I borrow your silencer? My pistol's loud as a firecracker, and I'd rather not wake the neighborhood. I'm still trying to keep my good-guy reputation intact."
"Tell you what, I'll pop off a round first, and then we can trade," came the laid-back reply.
Meanwhile, tucked away in a narrow alley, Greg and his team of five hitmen were poised for an ambush, clearly outgunned but ready to spring the trap.
"Enough chit-chat, let's wrap this up," someone said, breaking the tension.
In a flash, guns were trained with precision on the group in the middle.
"Who are you? If you're with the Dark Web and you fancy staying alive, clear out!" barked one of the hitmen.
"Well, thanks for the heads-up. You're just the folks we're after. Charge!"
Shots rang out from a hidden stash, and chaos erupted as people charged. The alley echoed with the sounds of struggle, while two sharp-dressed men stood guard at either end, making sure no one slipped away.
Greg spotted a chance to make a run for it but froze as a gun barrel pressed against his forehead...
A short while later, more men showed up, rounding up the injured and bundling them into cars.noveldrama
The alley soon returned to its usual tranquility, the blood cleaned up by those intent on making things right.
Three wounded cops, one in dire straits, were lucky to get help from quick- thinking bystanders, who stabilized him until the ambulance whisked him off to the hospital, saving his life.
"Thank goodness for the quick actions, buying us precious time," the lead surgeon noted.
When the police sought to thank the do-gooders, the men humbly replied, "Our boss taught us to be decent folks My brother said, and since our sister-in-law's a cop, we're alDabout doing right."
They had initially wanted to praise their boss directly but quickly adapted their story upon seeing the officers, smoothly sidestepping trouble.
As the police offered accolades and rewards, the group politely declined, saying,
"Real heroes don't need the spotlight." And with that, they vanished.
Back at the hotel, they eagerly reported to their boss. "Boss, those cops were insistent on showing their gratitude."
Conner glanced up, "What did you call them?"
"Uh, the police."
"Watch your tone, remember your sister-in-law's one of them," Conner chided then slouched back on the couch, musing, "I still think we need some bold wedding photos. The usual stuff just isn't us."
An excited underling burst in, "Boss, we snagged Greg and the hitmen. The cops nabbed one; want us to spring him?"
"Why resort to thuggery? Is that my teaching?" Conner quizzed, as his underling muttered in complaint.
"Why are we still acting like it's the Wild West? There's no honor in that," Conner said, eyeing the chandelier. "Let the cops do their thing."
The hotel clock chimed, prompting Conner to rise, "Time to meet these so-called 'experts' from the Dark Web."
At a nearby hotel, Conner used his
fingerprint to access a hidden elevator floor. As the doors slid
open, he strolled in with his hands
nonchalantly in his pockets, surveying the captives.
"1, 2, 3,...12, 13, 14," he counted, perching on a table with a smirk, "Bet the Dark
Web's losing their minds, huh? Fourteen of you all here. Anyone get teary-eyed seeing familiar faces?"
What do you think?
