Chapter 115
Chapter 115.
As soon as she saw Hayden, Lillian burst into tears and screamed. “Miss Downey, I didn’t take any necklace. She slanders me.”noveldrama
“I know, I know you didn’t take it. This matter has not yet been clearly investigated, you go downstairs first.”
“She’s lying.” Lillian gripped the railing with one hand and wiped her tears with the other. The people watching this cringed, but she screamed at the top of her lungs.
“Everyone is lying to me, it’s not like that at all, everyone trusts her. She wants everyone to throw me out, I’ve heard it all.”
Hearing this, Hayden’s face went pale and he looked at Jeff fiercely, “What’s going on?”

Jeff wrinkled his brow. “Mr. Brown and the others think it’s more important to let the film crew out quickly, so….”.
From the crowd, Mr. Brown suddenly interrupted.
“The reason I’m doing this is for the good of the hotel.”
“Even if it is for the good of the hotel, you can’t just fire someone on a whim.” Hayden looked at Mr. Brown and his gaze was so sharp and cold that he was frightened trembling. At that point, he no longer dared to say anything.
Hayden looked at Lillian again, raised the volume of his voice and shouted.
“Don’t worry. I assure you that this matter will be clearly investigated. If the necklace wasn’t taken by you, certainly no one will fire you.”
Lillian’s beautiful face was white as a sheet and filled with depression and disappointment. She shook her head repeatedly with tears streaming down her cheeks.
“It’s impossible. I’ll definitely be fired.”
After uttering these words, the railing of the dilapidated top floor suddenly emitted a creaking sound. The rusty railing that was attached to the cement stone pier emitted a sharp rubbing sound, eliciting exclamations from the onlookers.
Hayden clenched his fists tightly.
“Things can’t go on like this. Jeff, you talk to him to get his attention. Say something about her grandmother being in her hometown, I’ll find a way to bring her down.”
After uttering these words, his heart pounding violently, Hayden silently approached Lillian from the edge as he bent his body after Jeff started talking about Lillian’s grandmother in the hometown.
Jeff’s trembling voice echoed across the rooftop.
“Lillian, your grandmother’s health is not good and she keeps expecting you to send her money every month. You shouldn’t give up on your life like that.”
“…”.
Under the scorching sun, sweats appeared on Hayden’s body and quickly evaporated with each step forward. Through the gap in the railing, he could see that the firefighters were already ready below and were urgently filling the airbag. From such an elevated position, even if the airbag cushioning existed, one would probably suffer a concussion when falling.
Lillian seemed almost persuaded by Jeff and cried inconsolably as she let out a blood-chilling cry, “If I lose my job, I’ll have no way to send money to my grandmother. I’m not like you people, you can let people die with just a word and still think it doesn’t matter.”
She was so agitated that her hand holding the railing tensed uncontrollably. The railing kept making sounds.
clang, clang, clang
This made everyone’s hearts leap into their throats.
As the screaming and shouting continued, the originally unstable railing finally collapsed. Lillian’s screams echoed throughout the sky.
The crowd at the scene drew in a cold breath and didn’t dare look at what was happening.
“Quick, somebody come quick…”. Hayden’s shout brought the crowd back to itself.
At that moment, she was lying on the edge of the rooftop with one hand clinging to the stone pier, while the other successfully grabbed Lillian’s hand at just the right moment.
It was as if her arm weighed approximately a thousand pounds and every passing second was torment for her. Hayden gritted his teeth and used his last strength to utter two words, “Save her quickly.”
The crowd who had come to their senses rushed to lift Lillian, who had fainted in fear. Hayden rolled over and sat on the floor. He felt as if he had dislocated his arm, as it hurt so much that it was numb and he had trouble lifting it.
“Are you still able to get up?”.
A familiar voice sounded above his head.
Hayden was stunned for a moment. When he looked up, the sunlight was blinding, but he could vaguely see Joseph’s handsome face. A white hand with rounded nails and slender fingers reached out toward her.
“Why are you here?”
“The reporters are live downstairs, shouldn’t I come? The firemen are ready downstairs, but you make such a heroic rescue, do you think the hotel’s reputation isn’t well known enough?” Joseph’s voice was firm and clear. As always, he was nonchalant: “Are you still able to stand?”.
The feeling of survival after disaster still lingered in Hayden’s mind. He couldn’t tell how much concern and care Joseph revealed in his tone. Hayden took a deep breath. “I’ll try.”
Just as he uttered these words, his body suddenly lifted off the ground and he felt as if the sky was spinning for a moment. Her whole body changed direction and she could finally see his face clearly when he was no longer facing the sun. She could also hear his deep, deep, cold voice.
“You don’t need to try.”
She didn’t scream and at that moment, she unconsciously wrapped her hands around Joseph’s neck and was carried horizontally by him in her arms to leave the rooftop.
Was he crazy?
Joseph carried her all the way up the stairs to the elevator and out of the elevator. He carried her all the way to his office, ignoring everyone’s shocked looks along the way.
After returning to the office, Hayden’s face turned apple red. “You, what are you doing?”
He threw her down on the office couch and her face was cold. He roughly grabbed one of her waving hands, “Have you ever thought about the consequences if you hadn’t grabbed her a moment ago, or if you had fallen next to her?”
Under her questioning gaze, Hayden felt his throat clog. It took him a good while before he could speak. “You… Didn’t you say the firefighters downstairs are prepared?”
The worst-case scenario was that he’d fall in with her over the airbag or something.
“This is the twentieth floor.” Joseph’s face darkened even more.
What use could the airbag possibly be? Even if she didn’t die, she could be seriously injured.
Under his pressing gaze, Hayden felt an invisible pressure and inexplicably, he began to feel guilty as if he had done something wrong. Surprisingly, she didn’t dare look him in the eye again, trying to change the subject.
“Isn’t it that I’m fine? I’m just contributing to the hotel. If I really make a glorious sacrifice, you guys will help me take care of my daughter, right… hmm…”.
Before her words were fully uttered, Joseph kissed her lips. Her eyes widened and she stared in disbelief at his abruptly enlarged face in front of her. Her pupils could no longer focus because the distance was too short. She could clearly feel the violent pounding of Joseph’s heart.
