The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage

Chapter 2486

Soon, Frank and Meg arrived in Cronde, and they headed straight to a market.

Frank was puzzled. "What are you getting? Why do you have to get it from a market and not the grocery store?"

"I smelled something special when I took a stroll outside the cottage," Meg replied, not one for mysteries. "It's a local specialty beef-it looks no different from normal beef, but everything from the condiment to the cut is exquisite, and it's especially sweet when taken out from the stock. That's why I craved some."

Frank nodded, "So you're just craving for some meat! You could've said that outright—I have some readily available."

Meg giggled unabashedly, as she was not some innocent maiden. "I'll take both. The more the better!"

Both of them chatted as they arrived before a small stall, and Meg looked around.

Just as the other homestay owner said, the beef stall was between a stall for farm crops and seafood, so this must be it.

Approaching the butcher, Meg said, "Five pounds of beef, please!"

The butcher did not hesitate to cut a slab and put it on the scale. "Would six be alright?"

It was his cunning as a businessman-he actually had pinpoint precision with his cut. But seeing that Meg appeared uninitiated, he cut six pounds instead, presuming that Meg would be none the wiser anyway.

And that was in fact what happened-Meg knew what the butcher was up to, but she was not Jada. Even with Frank at her side, she stuck to her principle of not causing trouble and whipped out her phone, "How much?"noveldrama

"Fifty!" The butcher held up five fingers.

"You're kidding!" Meg pointed at the board that clearly stated it was seven dollars per pound.

"That's the old price. It's moot now." The butcher chuckled, quickly putting away the board.

He knew that Frank and Meg were just tourists in Mount Statera and would not stay that long. As such, he inflated the price to earn what he could get.

Meg was a little upset at this point, but the butcher had already cut a slab and it was not really nice to suddenly renege, so she bore with it.

As she made payment and picked up the beef, however, she noticed something was wrong.

Was this five and a half? It did not feel that heavy!

After all, Meg worked in the kitchen too, as the manager of Golden Lily.

Fruit plates were expensive over there, and employees were only afforded a half- pound derivation-no more, no less.

And as an independent woman, Meg

P

was keen to prove her competence with the former owner of Golden Lily. Eventually, she could weigh small fruits with precision with ust her hands, to the point that anyone would be impressed.

Now, she just needed her hands to weigh anything!

And right now, she could tell that the beef was not six pounds, but precisely five!

Putting down the beef, Meg snapped, "What's this? This is an entire pound short!"

The butcher rolled his eyes at her. "Just say that you're not buying. Stop pretending like you're from money."

He picked up the slab of beef and put it on the weight scales, then gestured for Meg to look.

It really was six pounds, but Meg

realized then that the butcher waget

not just a swindler-he had modified the scales too!

That was just disgusting!

Incensed, she snapped, "Are you going to eat it raw if it isn't actually six pounds?"

Frank's eyes lit up.

He did not intervene because he wanted to see the limits of Meg's patience.

And just as he expected, the ever mild-mannered lady could snap too!

Seeing that he would be exposed, the butcher promptly yelled at Meg, "Watch your mouth! If you don't wanna buy, just leave! Don't blame me or my equipment! Aren't you just causing trouble for the heck of it here?!"
