The Great Medical Saint

Darius' legs trembled uncontrollably in terror. It all felt like a nightmare.

Allen had actually lost without even drawing his blade. His death was gruesome, with blood flowing from his mouth and nose. His face even twisted in agony.

As Matthew advanced step by step, Darius dropped to his knees with a thud.

He pleaded desperately, "Please don't kill me! I'm not an Eastorian. I'm on your side. I beg you, spare me!"

Matthew's expression remained cold and silent as he continued to advance toward Darius. He had often seen in dramas how victors lost their edge because they talked too much, giving their opponents the chance to turn the tables.

He believed that if someone died because they couldn't keep quiet, they deserved it. So, he reminded himself to keep silent when taking action.

Seeing Matthew's silence only deepened Darius' fear.

"I know I was wrong! I shouldn't have brought anyone here to find Uncle Tony. Please give me a chance. I don't want to die. I swear, if you let me live, I'll change for good!"

As he spoke, he kept slapping himself. His voice was choked with sobs as tears streamed down his face.

Just as Matthew neared and prepared to strike, Tony's voice suddenly rang out. "Wait... Don't kill him!"

Matthew shot Tony a puzzled look. "But he brought people here to kill you!"

Tony sighed. "I know, but he did say he would change. Maybe we should give him a chance."

Matthew shook his head slightly. "You're being too soft-hearted. Giving him a chance is just digging your own grave. Are you trying to make your own death come sooner?"

With that, he prepared to make his move.

Another loud thud followed. Tony kneeled and pleaded, "Please don't kill him..."

Startled, Matthew hurried forward. He had always respected Tony and couldn't bear to see him kneel.

He rushed over and pulled Tony up. "Please don't do this. You're older than me. You shouldn't be kneeling to me."

Tony grabbed Matthew around the waist, shouting at Darius, "You fool! Run! Leave now!"

Darius scrambled to his feet and bolted, only to trip over a body by the doorway. He stumbled and crawled in his desperation to escape, looking more terrified than if he had seen a ghost.

Taking a deep breath, Matthew looked at Tony. "Weren't you always set on killing him?"

Tony looked up, clutching Matthew's waist. "I-It was only because my brother's death involved the three of them. I wanted revenge for him. But if Darius dies, my brother would probably hate me even from the afterlife."

Matthew's frustration mounted. "Do you even realize he brought Eastorians today to kill you? He was here to end your life!"

Tony's face reflected a bitter resignation. "I-I'm old now, with only a few years left. If he kills me, so be it. I don't want the Carling family to end with me."

Matthew hesitated a moment before he finally relented. "Alright, I'll let him go this once. But you'll regret this for sure."

He believed that someone as selfish as Darius wouldn't change. A leopard never changed its spots. He doubted Darius would truly reform.

Matthew sighed. In this family, the kind-hearted ones were overly kind while the ruthless ones were heartless beasts. It hardly felt like a family at all.

"This place isn't safe anymore. Otherwise, incidents like today's will just keep happening."

Tony looked at him, surprised. "Do Eastorians really value that book so much?"
