Chapter 562 Megan Langley Has Been Dead for a Long Time
Yvette suddenly burst into laughter. In fact, she laughed so hard that tears rolled down her cheeks. "Kenton, you really are something. But regardless, Grace won't be able to rest in peace.
"Megan has been dead for a long time. Her body's buried on Whitesand Isle. You and Grace will never see her again in this lifetime.
"Grace will die never knowing what Megan grew up to look like. She'll never know that her daughter died at the age of 23, her corpse dumped by me on Whitesand Isle, where a fisherman took pity on her and buried her.
Yvette continued laughing hysterically. "Last time, I told Grace that Megan might be watching her from anywhere in the world. Once a person dies, they become a soul. Can't a soul go wherever it pleases?"
"Yvette Jenkins!" Kenton roared hoarsely. He rushed forward and grabbed Yvette by the throat. "Is it true?"
"It's true," Yvette replied calmly, meeting Kenton's eyes, accepting it all without flinching.
"Megan died a long time ago. She wouldn't listen, you see. After the incident with Laura, she kept trying to escape. I had her caught, broke her legs, locked her in the basement, and starved her for three days and nights.
"Eventually, Megan gave in. She said she wanted to brush her teeth, wash her face, and take a shower. I had someone take her. While brushing her teeth, she used a toothbrush to stab her own throat when the guard wasn't watching. She committed suicide just like that."
"Hahahahaha! What a useless girl. She grew up under my roof, yet still clung to justice, going as far as turning on herself. What a joke she was!
"Grace had those genes, and somehow managed to give birth to such a decent daughter."
Kenton's fingers tightened uncontrollably. Yvette just stared at him, her smile twisted and triumphant.
"Kenton, Grace will never see Megan in this life," Yvette said weakly. "But she can die now because in the afterlife, she'll finally get to meet her daughter."
Kenton let out a hoarse scream, violently throwing Yvette aside.
"No, that's impossible. Megan can't be dead. She wouldn't have killed herself."
He clutched at his hair, voice rasping with anguish. "Yvette, how could you kill her?"
Yvette laughed madly. "Megan's been dead for years. All these years, you and Grace have been dreaming in vain.
"Kenton, if you don't believe me, go to Whitesand Isle yourself. Or you could check the basement in my villa. There are still recordings of Megan's suicide there. I told you, didn't I? If you betray me, you pay the price. That's the rule around here.
"Anyway, I've got a terminal illness. If I die, so be it. I've no regrets. But can the same be said for Grace? Hahahaha!"
"How could you let Megan die?" Lina lunged forward, grabbing Yvette and shaking her violently. "If she's dead, what am I supposed to do? What about Charlene?
"You've got your illness, and you're dying-that's fine. But couldn't you think about us even once?
"You killed Megan, and what? You want Charlene and me to die in her place?" Lina sobbed uncontrollably. "You already ruined me. Why can't you let my daughter live freely? It's all your fault. It was all you!
"Now, they're saying that my daughter isn't even my daughter. Why? Why did it come to this?"
Lina let go of Yvette and collapsed to her knees, wailing.
Yvette lay on the ground, hair fully white, the Umbrahex in her body still flaring. Once the painkiller wore off, the pain would return, tearing through her like knives. At this point, death was starting to seem like a release.
"I hate you. I hate you so much." Lina wanted to go to Charlene, but the
bodyguards blocked her. She couldn't even get near her.
"Charlene, don't be afraid. Mommy's right here. Mommy will protect you."
Lina looked at Charlene, bruised and bloodied, and her heart felt like it was being ripped in two.
"I don't believe it," Kenton muttered through clenched teeth, his hoarse voice rising again. "I don't believe Megan is dead."
"Then, go see for yourself! Verify it!" Yvette closed her eyes, slumped, completely resigned. "If you're too scared to go, send your people instead.
"I, Yvette Jenkins, have never been afraid to die. But now, my daughter isn't even my daughter. While my granddaughter has the blood of the Jenkins family, she also has the blood of the person I hate most. I
"Cassie Holden is nothing but trash. I truly regret it."
That last sentence was so soft that only Yvette herself could hear it.
She regretted it, but what was done was done. There was no second chance.
"Fine." Kenton wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and turned to leave. "Watch them. Don't let them take a single step outside this room."
"Yes, Mr. Langley Senior."
After Kenton left, he went to the next room, where Sheldon was still standing in front of the glass, silently watching the scene unfold.
"Sheldon," Kenton called, his tone instantly more respectfully.
Sheldon's face was icy as he hummed in acknowledgment. "Megan's dead. What do you plan to do next?"
"I haven't confirmed Yvette's claim. I need to verify it for myself."
"Fine." Sheldon turned around. "Make it quick. There can be no delays."
"Yes, Sheldon. I understand."
Kenton hurried per orders, rushing out of the hospital.
Meanwhile, Sheldon pulled out his phone and made another call. "Proceed with the plan."
"Yes, sir."
He then hung up and stepped into the adjacent room.
Looking down at Yvette lying on the floor like a beaten dog, then turning to Lina and Charlene, he finally spoke.
"Lina, do you and your daughter want to live?"
His cold gaze fell on Yvette's face. "Yvette, will you sacrifice yourself to save your daughter?"
"What do you mean?" Yvette opened her eyes, eyeing Sheldon with suspicion and caution. "Sheldon Phelps, what exactly do you want?"
"It's simple, I'll let you go, and you'll
kill Cassie," Sheldon said with a faint
smile. As long as you kill her, have Kenton release Lina and Charlene."
"You think I'm capable of killing Cassie like this? Sheldon, you're dreaming." Yvette sneered at him. "Even Wesley couldn't find Cassie. My people have all but vanished. How the hell would I even find her?"
"You can't," Sheldon replied. "But Cassie will come find you. After all, she just
found out that Charlene is her daughter."
At those words, Yvette's eyes widened in shock. "Sheldon, so that's your play?"
Sheldon's voice turned ice cold as he responded, "I learned it from you."noveldrama
