Chapter 58
Even if Evelyn recovered, she would never have children of her own. She didn't say anything else. She was always quiet, keeping to herself most of the time. With Jason, she was polite but distant.noveldrama
Jason pressed his lips together and said, "That's good."
Evelyn glanced at him. She asked, "Is there anything else, Mr. Holt?"
Jason got the hint. "Nope. I'll leave you to it."
Evelyn stayed outside for a while longer. She actually enjoyed this solitude. As the night deepened, she finally got up, ready to head inside her tent. As she got up, footsteps sounded in the distance, accompanied by the faint glow of a flashlight.
A soft woman's voice, laced with a smile, carried through the air. "Is this your tent?"
Evelyn turned toward the voice.
Tiffany stood beside Lucas, his tall, broad-shouldered frame making her look even smaller. Before she could process it, Lucas stepped into the tent, and Tiffany
followed right behind him.
They were sharing a tent.
Evelyn's gaze flickered. She hadn't expected this. Lucas knew she was here tonight, yet he hadn't bothered to avoid doing such things in front of her.
Her fingers unconsciously tightened around the thermos in her hands before she turned and headed back to her tent.
This wasn't just any campsite—it was a luxury retreat equipped with top-tier amenities. Even the tents were designed like upscale hotel suites, complete with plush mattresses, sofas, and coffee tables.
The insulated tent kept the cold at bay, and for the first time in a while, she slept soundly until morning.
Stepping out of her tent, Evelyn made her way toward the wash area, passing by Lucas' tent.
It was empty.
The bed was perfectly made, untouched, as if no one had slept there at all.
She didn't dwell on it. Instead, she boarded a shuttle to go freshen up.
The crisp morning air helped clear her head. She felt a little more relaxed. As she stepped inside the restroom, she overheard a familiar voice.
"I don't see my brother anywhere," Sophia said over the phone.
The person on the other end said something, and Sophia suddenly giggled. "Oh, so Tiffany went back to the hotel with him in the middle of the night? Got it."
Evelyn stood there, momentarily dazed. Then, it clicked. They hadn't even stayed the night here. So, was it because the tents' soundproofing wasn't good enough? Not private enough for them to do their thing?
They were in the honeymoon phase. It made sense. It was hard to hold back.
Evelyn let the thought linger for a moment, then turned and headed back to the hotel.
She needed to do her hair and makeup to make sure she looked as put together as ever. That was something she couldn't afford to slack on these days.
The company trip would continue until the afternoon.
By the time Evelyn got downstairs, she heard that Lucas and Tiffany had already left probably because her presence had ruined the mood for him.
She didn't care. She grabbed breakfast and then went to the café to continue working on data reports.
Sebastian had told her that once they finalized this project, they would present it to Graham. She couldn't afford to slack off, not even for a second.
Justine had only just found out about the chaos from the night before. She nearly kicked herself for missing the camping trip. She would've loved to back Evelyn up.
But Evelyn had already made peace with these things a long time ago. With her current health condition, holding onto such things would only worsen her condition and take even more time off her life.
...
On Monday, work picked up right where it left off, running at full speed.
Flying Seal Group had several key partners, and they were also responsible for post-launch technical maintenance.
Sebastian took Evelyn to one of their partner companies to handle the follow-up work.
As they passed through the CBD, they drove past the most striking skyscraper in the district-Bluezen Tower. Evelyn didn't spare it a single glance.
Their meeting was in an office building nearby.
During the discussion with Isaac Lincoln, she unexpectedly spotted Michael across the room. He was in the middle of a separate negotiation, probably sent by Lucas for a new deal.
Michael noticed her too. His brows instinctively knitted together, and his lips parted as if to speak. "Ms. Reed-"
But Evelyn didn't acknowledge him. She walked right past, not sparing him a second look.
What do you think?
