Chapter 1861
Sensing that Marlowe wasnt in the mood for more questions, Milly shifted the topic.
Well, enough about that, Now that youve got a new job and my roommates moving out soon for work, I am thinking… Why dont you move in with me? Marlowe considered the offer.
She did have enough saved for rent now, and the thought of returning to that damp, cold basement made her shudder.
You know what? That sounds perfect, she said, a genuine smile finally forming.
Lets do it.
I can move in as soon as the contracts signed.
Marlowe and Milly reveled at the bar late into the night, their laughter and chatter blending with the ambient noise.
As the evening wound down, they bid each other farewell, their spirits still high.
When Marlowe got home, her mind snapped to her promise to Milly about moving in with her.
She darted to her room, eager to start packing.
Amid the flurry of clothes and belongings, her hands brushed against something-Mitchels coat. The garment, now clean and fresh, was a reminder of an unfinished task.
Marlowe wanted to return it to Mitchel, but she didnt know when he would be free.
After a moments hesitation, she steeled herself and typed out a message to Mitchel.
Are you free tomorrow? Id like to return the coat you gave me at the bar.
Ive already washed it; its clean now.
Mitchels response pinged almost instantly.
Its just a coat.
No need to go out of your way to return it to me.
I am busy working in the hospital tomorrow.
Marlowes gaze flicked between the message and the coats logo.
The emblem of the logo, though understated, spoke of quality.
The fabric of the coat felt luxurious against her skin, a far cry from Mitchels dismissive description. She knew that Mitchel was rich.
She believed his coat must be expensive.
Marlowe snapped a photo of the coat and fed it into a price-checking app.
The result nearly caused her to drop her phone in shock.
She had thought it was pricey, but this… This was too expensive.
The realization hit her: damaging it would cost her months of salary to replace.
Heart racing, Marlowe scrutinized every inch of the coat for flaws.
Finding none, she exhaled in relief, her resolve to return it to Mitchel stronger than ever.
She fired back a message to Mitchel quickly.
No way! This coat is yours, and I insist on returning it to you. Even if you dont want it, you should be the one to throw it away.
The chat window showed Mitchel had read her message, but he didnt reply.
Marlowe grew anxious.
After what felt like an eternity, Mitchels reply came.
Alright then, you can come to the hospital tomorrow to return it to me.
Okay, Marlowe quickly replied.noveldrama
At the hospital, a cluster of interns trailed behind Mitchel, their eyes darting between him and his phone as he tapped out a reply.
They whispered amongst themselves, startled by what appeared to be a smile playing at the corners of Michels mouth.
Could the stoic Dr.
Chadwick be dating someone now? Before they could speculate further, Mitchel pocketed his phone and resumed giving his instructions with a calm expression.
The following day.
What do you think?
