Chapter 884
Rodrick watched Matthew with tentative eyes, feeling that he might have miscalculated the situation. However, a few hundred thousand dollars didn't mean much to him, so he simply said, "I offer 600 thousand and one dollars."
He had decided to add a dollar to every offer Matthew made from then on. But that didn't mean that he was short of money-he just wanted to show that he would always be offering a dollar more than Matthew.
Rodrick believed that Matthew would fall into despair after a few rounds of raising their offers back and forth.
Without waiting for Orion to speak, Matthew immediately offered his next price, "One million dollars!"
Again, Rodrick was caught off guard. He never thought Matthew would offer one million dollars for it, but he still said unhurriedly, "One million and one dollars."
Orion was smiling so hard that his gums could be seen. This was double the amount he had initially charged them, and he couldn't be happier about it!
Following, Matthew stated instantly, "Ten million dollars!"
Upon hearing that, Rodrick's eyes widened. Matthew was dressed in such casual clothing, and yet he was offering a sky-high price for the stone tablet. Perhaps the legends were true, and that there was a secret to the stone tablet.
Rodrick's expression gradually became serious as he said, "Ten million and one dollars!"
Meanwhile, Orion was so excited that he almost jumped out of his seat. Ten million dollars! He hadn't expected the price to soar so quickly!
Then, Matthew pointed out a finger, saying, "A hundred million dollars!"
Immediately, Rodrick stood up and stared at Matthew. "Are you sure you have a hundred million dollars?"
Matthew looked at him disdainfully and said, "Just get out if you don't have the money!"
Having heard that, Rodrick's face turned red with fury. A hundred million dollars was his maximum budget, and he could pay now if Orion accepted it. However, he was afraid that Matthew would continue to raise his offer.
Now that things had come down to this, though, Rodrick could only continue to increase his offer. "A hundred million and one dollars."
Hearing the numbers made Orion so excited that he almost held his breath. A hundred million dollars. Even if his business in real estate crashed, he could still continue living as a wealthy person with a hundred million dollars.
Orion turned to look at Matthew excitedly. "Do you still want to increase your offer?"
The tone he used portrayed his utmost respect for Matthew, and all the contempt he had directed toward Matthew earlier had disappeared.
On the side, David felt as if he were watching a show on television. The offer had initially started out with a few hundred thousand dollars-an amount he could never dream of achieving—and it soared up to a hundred million dollars now.
He felt that this bet was even more dramatic than what was shown on TV, and he had turned completely stiff in disbelief.
Rodrick sent an icy glance at Matthew, a glance that seemed as if he was looking at a dead body. Then, he stood up and told Orion, "Alright. Let's go and take a look at the stone tablet."
Then, all of them took the passenger van and arrived at a residential area 20 minutes later. They stopped at the entrance, and Orion brought the group into the residential area.noveldrama
The area was an abandoned construction site filled with half-finished buildings, and there was even a banner hung across the gate that read, "Give us back our hard-earned money and our homes! You heartless developers..."
Orion tore the banner down and fished out a key, opening the gate and leading the rest of them inside. After they walked for a while, Orion brought the group up to the fifth floor of an unfinished high-rise.
Then, he removed a pile of construction materials and revealed a worn-looking stone tablet.
Orion then leaned against the stone tablet and blew off the dust on it, revealing the words engraved on the stone tablet. On it was written "Octolith".
The names Abraham Creed, Cyrus Monroe, Asher Grey, and Spencer Banks were also engraved on it.
Orion then pointed at the stone tablet and asked Matthew, "The stone tablet is genuine. I've never thought of making a knockoff to scam you or anyone else. Now that you've seen the stone tablet, do you want to bid higher?"
At that, Matthew spat out icily, "Bid higher? I'll take his life, then!"
As Matthew spoke, he pointed at Rodrick.
What do you think?
